I'm now in the fifth grade of my bilingual education, which means I have to do WISWEX, which simply is an internship in a foreign country. The goal of WISWEX is to speak a lot of English, what often results in an improvement of the English vocabulary. I had the idea of doing something which would be interesting and useful for my future. Politics belongs to my interests and after being involved in several Model European Parliament conferences, this week I will finally visit the real parliament in Brussels. The centre of the European decision making, together with Strasbourg.
Saturday morning, I left my hometown IJsselstein to travel to Brussels. After a four-hour trip, because of the traffic jam, I was finally there: Brussels! I dropped my suitcase in my room, which is nearby the building of the European Parliament, and went for a walk to the place where the European Parliament is located. The plan was to visit the House of the European History, but unfortunately it was closed until the 6th of may. Plans had changed, today I was going to visit Station Europe. Station Europe is located in an old train-station. Inside there is a small model of the buildings that are related to the European Parliament. With an IPad I was able to walk around the model and when I touched a building on the IPad, a story popped-up about the history and the functions of the building. After that, I walked in the Leopold park behind the European Parliament. Today was a good day. I'm looking forward to the coming days.
